Braces fix alignment issues by applying firm pressure on the teeth, which ultimately shifts them into a straighter position. At GO Invisalign Tampa, we provide several options for patients to decide what type of braces to use. All these options are geared towards helping our patients achieve the perfect smile.
While there are many options, it’s best to be wise in making a decision based on several factors. Dr. Ulises Guzman is an orthodontist for kids, teens, and adults who can help you determine the braces that are best for your individual needs. He understands that misaligned teeth put a strain on the jaw and facial muscles during chewing, which can lead to pain, including TMJ-TMD.
Deciding on the best braces will depend on factors such as the severity of misalignment, age, oral health, lifestyle, appearance, and budget. There is no need to worry as we provide braces for all requirements. Plus, we create a unique treatment plan for each patient so you’re assured that you’re getting the best treatment with any type of brace used.
3M™ Indirect Digital Braces
3M™ Indirect Digital Braces are an advanced orthodontic treatment option that leverages digital technology for more precise and efficient treatment. The process begins with a digital scan of the patient’s teeth, creating a highly accurate 3D model. This allows for precise planning and customization of the braces. The braces are customized to fit each patient’s unique dental structure, leading to better results and a more comfortable experience. The brackets are pre-positioned on a model of the patient’s teeth and then transferred to the mouth using a custom tray. This ensures that the brackets are placed accurately and efficiently, reducing the chances of errors and chair time for the patient. Traditional Metal Braces
Traditional metal braces are the most common type of braces and are more comfortable today than ever before. Made of high-grade stainless steel, metal braces straighten your teeth using metal brackets and archwires. They are suitable for kids, teens, and adults and can treat all levels of misalignment and bite issues. With metal braces, you have the option of adding colored elastics (rubber bands) for a more unique and colorful smile.
Self-Ligating Braces
Self-ligating braces are made from the same materials as traditional braces. However, they do not require the use of elastics, meaning fewer appointments and less friction being placed on the tooth. Self-ligating braces come with traditional metal, ceramic, or clear brackets. They are the same size as metal braces but use a specialized clip in place of elastics to help the archwire guide teeth to place. The clip helps reduce the amount of pressure being placed on the tooth and requires fewer adjustments because there are no elastics to replace.
Clear (Ceramic) Braces
Ceramic braces are made of clear materials and are therefore less visible on your teeth than metal braces. For this reason, ceramic braces are used mainly on older teenagers and adult patients who have cosmetic concerns. While they are visually less prominent, they do require more attention to oral hygiene as ceramic braces are larger and are more brittle than their metal counterparts. For these reasons, ceramic braces tend to be used more on upper front teeth than on lower teeth.
Invisalign Clear Aligners
Invisalign clear aligners are a series of invisible, removable, and comfortable plastic trays that straighten your teeth like braces. Not only are the aligners invisible, but they are also removable, so you can eat and drink what you want while in treatment, plus brushing and flossing are less of a hassle. The aligners are comfortable and have no metal to cause mouth abrasions during treatment. They also don’t require regular adjustments like braces do. Clear aligners like Invisalign are recommended for mild to moderate orthodontic cases.
Factors Involved in Choosing Braces
Choosing braces can be a daunting task, and at GO Invisalign Tampa we are here to help. The braces available vary in terms of material, cost, treatment time, and the orthodontic cases they are recommended for. Factors to consider in choosing braces include age, oral health, lifestyle, appearance, and budget.
Some questions you need to ask yourself include, “How would I feel about metal braces if I’m an adult?” or “How long will I have to wear braces, and how much do they cost?” If you have a busy lifestyle, you should also consider how frequently a certain treatment requires you to see your orthodontist.
Also, you need to ask your orthodontist if you are a candidate for treatments such as Invisalign. To be one, you need to have healthy gums and teeth, moderate misalignment, and the discipline to wear your aligners as prescribed by your orthodontist. There is no need to worry as Dr. Guzman and our orthodontic team will guide you each step of the way.
